Huntington Beach Kite Party 2004
I've said it before that getting there is half the fun, well this time was way different! The drive from my house to LA took 5 and a half easy hours do do some 4 hundred or so miles. We hit traffic and it took 4 HOURS to go the last 50 or 60 miles to Huntington, it was insane , 2 or 3 miles an hour for ever!!
I did finally make it just in time to hit the dinner party set up at a local restaurant. I was shocked to see over 60 people . people from all over the planet. Great food and a room full of kiters...this weekend was going to be good!
So I missed the Friday flying stuck in traffic, but Saturday morning dawned BLUE skied and warm. The beach was already active with kites floating in the light breeze and maybe 40 or more kiters out and bidding on the first of several auctions held over the weekend.
I went right to work setting up my kites and spreading out! soon the wind was right and everything went up. Sunday was as good , maybe even warmer and the wind came a bit later but was plenty for everyone.
It was one hellofa kite weekend, on the beach, at the hotel yacking and laughing ( we filled the entire hotel, and several others I think) I did have a near disaster when my 252 and flag line broke loose and floated down wind only to be tackled by a dozen or so kiters.....so it turned out to be just another story of the weekend! I had a blast and thanks to everyone that stopped that kite from being an embarrassment!
Dave thanks for taking care of my "parking pass" and I'll see ya next year for sure
here's some of the photos I took of the weekend
