July thru September 2001

June 29-30 & July 1 Miguel and I will be going to the Northwest Challenge in Long beach Washington.

July 4 I'm going to spend the Day at Berkeley and stay for the fireworks.. Its a great place to watch the fireworks  in San Francisco. Ya do have to get in there early thou as they close off the frontage road and University Ave.

July 7 Miguel and I will be going to L.A. for a Southern California League  event...

Easy trip down to LA, got to fly  about 4 hours at Belmont... MY GOD the winds were soooo nice... If we ever got winds like this in the Bay Area I don't remember it! So far well worth the trip!

Ok so we had a good time at the event.....then the car broke down as we were  leaving the beach......screwed with it till nearly midnight (thanks Al) and had to come back Sunday and find a garage to tow it to....its now nearly 4pm on monday and its finally repaired....Geeesh when it rains!

July 21-22 We will be headed to Oregon for the Port of  Brookings Festival...We wont be driving!

What a great event Brookings is, well organized and the hospitality cant be beat! The winds can be challenging but so what! THEN to top off a party weekend Miguel and I got bumped of our flight home... Something about being overweight (no jokes here you guys) it was a small plane and it was packed to the brim with kite bags and other stuff...anyway United provided a taxi to give us a tour of the coast and while it drove us to another airport 1 1/2 hours away, lunch vouchers, dinner vouchers  and 400 bucks in travel vouchers... all this AND they got us home only a few hours later than planned... I'm all smiles and have  now have my air fare to Billings covered!!!!  :-)

Thanks to all the great folks that put the Brookings event together, I wish I had you all here as volunteers for Bay Area events!

July 28-29 The Berkeley Kite Festival....I will be there...how bout you?

This years Berkeley Festival was a huge success on all fronts! The weather could not have been any better, the winds were strong {as usual for July} but we've seen worse.  there was a HUGE crowd both days and billions of kites in the sky all day long.... I did ok on the competition fields too! I will add a couple picture links as soon as I get em. Here is a picture of some of us at my house.

Here is a link to Brian and Dan's pictures at GWTW.. Dan has 5 pages of photos up.

Here's a photo of the gang that stayed at my place for the BKF.  Me, Phil Kalenowsky, Susan Shampo, Ray Bethell and Jim Strealy.

Aug. 4-5 No kites this weekend, I'll be installing a new motor in my pickup...Come on by and lend a hand!

Aug. 19-26 Off to Washington State for the International Kite Festival (WISKIF).

We rented an animal house and will stuff it full of friends. I'll have my laptop and camera so look here for some updates during the week

Day one was a beautiful day... here are a couple of photos:

Tuesday and Wednesday rained like hell night and day. Thursday was mostly dry but was darn abrasion day...the wind was gusting over 30 and the sand was nasty!

Friday and sat were beautiful as was Sunday... but we had to leave... and it was hard to go! Sorry no good pictures... I'll put a link when Dan gets his photos up

Hey guess who won the mystery ballet?

Link to Dan's photo pages, he's got some great shots of the week and friends.

September 30 Well it maybe safe to fly alright but the airlines are sure screwed up! They changed our flight from 6am to 8am and when we arrived at 6 (two hrs early) they told us the 8 am is now the 3 pm that is leaving at 6 pm so instead they put us on the 12 pm that was to leave at 3pm...confused?  Jeesus!  The lines at the ticket counter took MOST of the two hours so be warned!  SO far Billings is looking real GOOD, it was warm last night and today we will go out and have a look around, I'll get a few pictures and post em here. Hi Sheila! AND a Happy Birthday to Sharon Musto!

September 30 thru October 7 Blasting off to Billings Montana for the AKA convention and Grand Nationals. Should be a fun week! I'll bring my junky camera and try to get some pictures here.
