Happy New Season to everyone!!
I had the pleasure of bringing in the New Year with the San Diego Kite club at their annual New Years Fly at Mariners Point. I’ve been to this event many times and think this year was as good as ever. A large group of kiters attended, even the Gombergs . After a lull in the wind everything went up and looked great..And The pot luck lunch was great!
Ya know I forget something or someone in every issue and the last one wasn’t any different. I mentioned the Bay Area Sport Kite League and all the board members but I forgot to mention the current president Don King! Sorry Don. I promised Id make it up: . . . Don King* Don King* Don King! Don has great new energy for the league. He is a clear thinker and a great spokesman and leader for BASKL!)sorry Don
Speaking of BASKL March 28 will see the Leagues 3rd indoor event. These are becoming real popular and rumor has it that Evening Magazine (a local TV show) will be present to do a story on indoor flying.. COOL!
And a first for BASKL will take place on Feb 21st as BASKL will bring Charlie Sotich for a miniature kite workshop, Charlie will be teaching the group how to build THREE kites! For more information on this and other upcoming events, the BASKL 2004 calendar is at
LWWW.BASKL.ORGRegion 11's team Airzone is practicing hard and gathering up their passports as they will represent the U.S. along with two Washington teams at the 2004 Championships in Berck-Seur-Mer France.... Airzone is Darrin Skinner, Aaron Champie, Ulysses Villanueva and Wayne Fu. Good luck guys! Waaaaa! I wanna go!
KITE MONTH! Is headed right at us, so don’t forget to register your events! Anything kite related qualifies..... and remember you can win a prize just for flying a kite!! Iv got two events registered and thinking of more!
Kudos to Arnold Stellema! Arnold and Todd Little put together an online Della Porta kitemaking workshop! Steve Ferrel donated space on his Kitebuilder.com forum. 85 people registered to build the kite. The list of materials was posted to the forum and the 5 week workshop began on Jan 23.
Already there are other volunteers to teach subsequent classes. Imagine 85 kites born at the same time! Yet another amazing way kiters are using the internet!
Speaking of computers and internet, fighter kite fanatics probably will be interested in Bruce Lamberts new book on CD. North American Fighter Kites . I don’t have a copy yet myself but I read some rave reviews. Buy this book through eBay and 100% of net proceeds will be donated to one or more of the following kite organizations AKA, The world Kite Museum, or the North American Fighter Association. Spread the joy! Have fun during National Kite Month and throughout the season! Hope to see you out there, grinning at the end of your line.....
